The Benefits of Montessori Learning in the Early Years

Learning that begins in the hands
Montessori materials are designed so that children learn through touch and movement before they are asked to think in the abstract. A child who has held the weight of a thousand-bead cube understands quantity in a way that a worksheet cannot teach.
Concentration is protected
Long, uninterrupted work periods allow a child to choose an activity, repeat it and refine it. That repetition is not boredom — it is mastery in progress, and it builds the attention span children carry into school.
Freedom within limits
Children choose their own work from a carefully prepared set of options. The freedom is real, and so are the limits: materials are returned, classmates are respected, and each activity is completed before the next begins.
Independence that lasts
When a child pours their own water, fastens their own coat and cleans up their own spill, they learn something bigger than the task: I am capable. That belief is the foundation of everything that follows.
If you would like to see this in practice, we welcome families to visit us in Surrey.
