Nido

Infant Program

9 months – 20 months

The Infant classroom is called Nido — Italian for “nest.” It is a calm, nurturing space where your baby builds secure relationships with caring educators and begins exploring the world at their own pace. Rather than a traditional daycare room, the Nido is intentionally designed around the developmental needs of infants, supporting their growing trust, movement, and sensory awareness.

What Your Child Will Experience

Every detail of the Nido is designed to support your infant’s development and wellbeing.

  • Nurturing and responsive care from familiar educators
  • A safe, supportive environment built for infants
  • Development of trust through consistent, warm relationships
  • Freedom of movement — never placed in positions they can’t reach themselves
  • Child-sized furniture and low, accessible materials
  • Gentle encouragement of early independence
  • Exploration of a carefully prepared environment
  • Individualized attention that follows each baby’s rhythms
  • Health and safety as the highest priority

What Your Child Will Learn

In the Nido, your child is building the foundations for all future learning.

  • Gross motor development — rolling, crawling, pulling up
  • Fine motor coordination — grasping, reaching, transferring
  • Trust and secure attachment with caregivers
  • Receptive and expressive language through songs and conversation
  • Sensory awareness through natural materials
  • Early self-regulation in a calm, predictable environment

The Montessori Approach

A method built on observing the child

In a Montessori infant environment, the adult’s role is to observe, respond, and prepare — never to rush. Educators follow each child’s individual rhythms for feeding, sleeping, and play, stepping in gently when needed and stepping back when a child is absorbed in exploration. The environment itself is the curriculum: every material is chosen for its purpose, every surface is at the child’s level, and every routine is an opportunity for connection and trust.

  • Open floor space for rolling, crawling, and exploring
  • Low, accessible shelves with a few carefully chosen materials
  • A calm, unhurried atmosphere that protects concentration
